Saturday Workshop: Sculpting the Body

Date Saturday 21 March 2026
Time 10.30-16.30 GMT
Location At the museum (Learning Studio and Exhibition Galleries)
Speaker Sarah Tombs

Spend a day creating a sculpture inspired by Caravaggio’s captivating Victorious Cupid and the classical Roman torsos featured in our exhibition, Caravaggio’s Cupid. Studying the artworks up close, we’ll investigate the dramatic play of light and shadow, and focus on Caravaggio’s powerful use of this chiaroscuro technique to evoke three-dimensional form.

Back in the studio, we’ll use soft modelling wax to transform our ideas into a small, quarter-size torso. You’ll learn key sculpting techniques and how to work in this adaptable medium. This hands-on experience offers a unique opportunity to connect your own practice with historical art, creating a unique sculpture to take home.

For ages 18+.
