Explore strategies to introduce art and sacred objects to your students through experiential learning and interdisciplinary approaches. Be introduced to our free Secondary RE and Art sessions of Sacred Art and Islamic Patterns, and learn ways to use our digital resources for schools. 

This CPD session is for RE and Art teachers (specialists and non-specialists) who would like to bring art into their curriculum to enrich students’ engagement with religions and worldviews.  

Our 90-minute online session is devised by experts in museum learning, RE and sacred art, and includes:  

  • An introduction to the Wallace Collection
  • Art history approaches and their relevance for studying religions and worldviews 
  • Religious and non-religious themes
  • ​​​​​​​Interdisciplinary perspectives, including: theology, philosophy, geopolitics, citizenship, art, history
  • ​​​​​​​Case studies of two sacred objects
  • Experiential learning approaches to art
  • The role of questions and discussion
  • An introduction to digital resources and museum workshops
  • A practical experience of our Islamic Patterns workshop  

About the speakers: Alexis Stones is Subject Lead for PGCE Religious Education at UCL’s Institute of Education and has extensive experience in museum learning. Shaheen Kasmani is an artist, educator and curator.
