| Date | Thursday 25 June 2026 |
| Time | 13.00-14.00 BST |
| Location | At the museum (Theatre) and Online (Zoom) |
| Speaker | Dr Lucy Davis and Barry Phipps |
Our exhibition, Winston Churchill: The Painter, presents a major retrospective that foregrounds Churchill’s sustained engagement with modern art and his interest in photography. Join Dr Lucy Davis and Barry Phipps as they examine these fascinating dimensions of his practice. Their discussion situates Churchill’s work in relation to the influence of key modern artists, including Claude Monet, Paul Cézanne and Walter Sickert, while also addressing the formative role of technological ways of seeing.
About the speakers:
Barry Phipps is a Fellow of Churchill College and an Affiliated Lecturer in the Department of the History of Art at the University of Cambridge. His research focuses on modern art, architecture, and design, with particular interest in their intersections with technology, and the sciences. He also works on the relationship between visual culture and political diplomacy, exploring how art engages with questions of power, policy, and international exchange.
Dr Lucy Davis is Curator of Paintings at the Wallace Collection and co-curator of Winston Churchill: The Painter.
